There are 52 weeks, approximately, in a year. My plan for 2026 is to post thoughts about writing fiction once a week for 50 of them. My hope is that what I post will be useful to you.
Some things I plan to post on: titles, opening lines, opening chapters, persona on the page, understatement, time, psychic distance, noticing, distillation, reading yourself, visualizing people, and the relationship between mood and syntax.
Nobody can tell you how to write fiction, though. Every writer has their way. On top of that, fiction writing is mysterious. What brought a story to fruition, the circumstances under which it manifested–ultimately that's beyond our reach.
Which is part of the beauty of it. Beauty inheres in every writing moment partly because its sources run deep.
